We don’t think it’s an exaggeration to state that every academic, professor, teacher, or student has, over the past couple of years, gained some experience with Generative AI – whether voluntarily or not. While some of these experiences may not have been positive ones, it’s clear that Generative AI is here to stay, and we must learn to work with it – dare we even say, embrace it.
We, the EERA blog and editorial team, decided to take a proactive – and generally optimistic – approach to the use of AI in academic blogging. In 2024, we got together with some members of the EERA community to discuss the use of AI. We had an open and honest debate, including about the academic writing process, the researcher’s voice, fact-checking, copyright, academic integrity, and diversity and sustainability.
These discussions led to the creation of our AI guidelines for EERA blog contributors.
As we note in our guidelines, these are not rules or prohibitions. If you are in doubt whether the AI tool that you are using falls under our ‘accepted use’, please get in touch to discuss.
